Kenya’s National Assembly is mourning the loss of  Denar Joseph Hamisi, a Nominated Member of Parliament who passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025, around 7:00am.

Announcing his death on Saturday, Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula described Denar as “humble” and “steadfast in service to the nation” and conveyed heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who worked closely with him.

“May his soul rest in eternal peace,” the Speaker added.

In response to his death, Speaker Wetang’ula announced the formation of a team to coordinate a befitting farewell with the family, led by the Deputy Leader of the Majority Party, Owen Baya Yaa. Further details on funeral arrangements will be shared in due course.

Born in 1969 in Kinango, Denar attended Mombasa Baptist High School, completing both the Kenya Certificate of Education and Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education.

He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (2000) and a Masters in International Business Administration (2002) from the United States International University. Later, he obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi in 2006.

Denar’s professional journey began in 1994 at African Tourist Hotels, where he managed operations and ensured service quality. In 2007, he entered public service as Commissioner at the Electoral Commission of Kenya, a role he held until 2008.

During the same period, he served as Director at the Coast Development Authority (2007–2010), contributing to regional infrastructure planning and economic initiatives along the coast.

He later became Director at Kenya Airports Authority (2009–2012), helping to modernize airports and strengthen aviation safety. Between 2011 and 2012, he was Director at Kenya National Accreditation Services (KENAS), overseeing quality and compliance across sectors.

Denar also contributed to higher education governance as a council member at the University of Nairobi (2013–2018) and Moi University (2021–2022), playing a key role in policy, finance, and institutional development.

 Denar formally joined the political arena in 2022 when he was nominated to Parliament under the Amani National Congress within the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

In the National Assembly, he served on the Departmental Committee on Sports & Culture and the Select Committee on National Cohesion & Equal Opportunities, earning respect for his commitment, diligence, and principled leadership.
